Long Walks with a Stick
The esteemed American political satirist P.J. O'Rourke adeptly characterized golf in its simplest terms:
"Golf combines two favorite American pastimes: Taking long walks and hitting things with a stick."
At its foundation, this is my challenge in participating in the Hundred Hole Hike. It will simply require more walking and hitting a white ball with a stick more times than I ever imagined possible.
But, after witnessing Jim's tremendous accomplishments last year in the Ben Cox 155, I'm inspired to reach my goal of walking 108 holes.
More importantly, it's an opportunity to raise funds for an important cause: the fight against breast cancer. Each year, more than 250,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women in the United States. This dreaded disease impacts far too many of our friends, family and loved ones.
I'm proud to be supporting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrfcure.org), which is committed to prevention and achieving a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime. It provides critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide, and increasing public awareness about good breast health.
I'm honored to be invited to participate in the Hundred Hole Hike and greatly appreciate your support.
